Unfortunately yes, it's buggy for some combintations of devices. I think it's still worth it......

I love Mirror. I use it every time I use Reason Studios. I use it in many ways - from controlling the SSL to using the “User defined device” to create live jams to sometimes just using the Big Transport on my phone to so many more way…….

I truly believe that if I hadn't created it, I would still find it worth $25 ($10 for TouchOSC and $15 for Mirror) and it would be part of my studio.

But I admit, I get frustrated because it’s not even close to perfect with the buggy things which can happen.
I’ve fought with the TouchOSC app to try and get it to work 100% of the time in 100% of use cases. I can’t. The bugs are out of the realm I can control. I believe the problem is that there is so much MIDI data flying between Reason and TouchOSC and that packets get dropped, information gets lost and there isn’t a way to error check for lost data without making it worse. (FWIW - for all of the Reason “frustrat-ees” out there, these problems are not on Reason’s end. They are a combo of TouchOSC itself and network MIDI).

I’m not writing this to make excuses but to tell the reality. I began my journey with Mirror out of true love for what I wanted to build using a tool (TouchOSC) which I thought would be able to match my dreams. The output is as good as I can possibly make it and I can’t fix the parts that are past my ability. I’m so happy with what I built and I don’t lie to say that I wish the underlying engine was just a bit ….. well ….. I wish it could 100% handle what I threw at it, 100% of the time.

So, I recommend you try it first. Yes, TouchOSC costs $10 that I can’t refund but, I can also almost certainly say that the “Big Transport” will work since it’s much simpler and uses much less MIDI data so you can have a transport controller on your phone. Which for myself seems more than worth the $10. The Big Transport is fully functional as the free demo so it will only cost the price of TouchOSC.

My most sincere hope though is that you find lots of use for the full version of Mirror! The rack templates when used one instrument at a time also are almost certain to be 100% functional. I love using it to “Play” on the combinator while recording the parameter changes. This also doesn’t send massive amounts of MIDI and is honestly about as stable as the Big Transport.
